From the Principal

Dear students and parents,

Firstly, I would like to say thank you for the warm welcome that you have all shown me since the announcement was made that I was to become the new Principal for IES Johanneberg. It is a great honour and privilege to be part of one of the largest, most dynamic and successful schools in Göteborg. I am extremely confident that in the coming years our school will be the leading school in the region and be renowned nationally and of course internationally.

Ms Rothstein has created a fantastic school and gathered an extremely capable team of teachers and staff to support and educate our years 7 to 9. In many ways, I could not ask for a better start to a school year.

However, there will be a few changes in personnel and a few changes to the school in general. It is vital that you log in to Schoolsoft, read our homepage and come to the parent meetings we will have at the beginning of term. We have several new teachers and a few teachers and staff returning after a period away from school. I am very excited about our new members of staff and I am sure we will continue to improve our results like  Ms Rothstein did last term. I would like to take the opportunity to wish Ms Rothstein a pleasant Autumn and an enjoyable semi-retirement.

The start of term is extremely important for us as a school and for our students. It is important that students attend all activities in school and start to build a good rapport (relationship) with their mentor. Mentorship is important and vital if we are to create that essential communication channel between the home and the school.

You all have high expectations of IES Johanneberg, and that is understandable and refreshing; I, myself, have great expectations of parents and students alike. I hope we can create an environment where, as we have said before, “teachers can teach and students can learn”. The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is an active resource you all have here at IES, I hope as many as possible utilize this group and become more active in the school’s activities, both inside and outside the classroom.

I hope to meet as many of you as possible in the forthcoming weeks and months. Remember your goals and your aspirations; it is so difficult to be motivated without them, but incredibly powerful to have them!

Mr Douglas McPherson

Principal, IES Johanneberg
